Tamarind Learning Afterschool Math Program
The new Tamarind Learning Afterschool Math Program is designed to supplement in-school classroom instruction by employing a unique and powerful combination of the extraordinary web-based EnableMath technology and effective personalized human support - the Tamarind Learning Coach (TLC).
The EnableMath technology has been carefully developed, tested and refined over the past 10 years. EnableMath is built on the theory that "productive practice" is the key ingredient to successful mastery of mathematics. The program provides extensive support to the student in this process, but not in the form of one-way computer based presentations that mirror the lecture. Students are actively engaged in the learning process through the application of adaptive work assignments supported by step-through examples and conceptual visualizations, all backed up by visual and audio guides.
The Tamarind Learning Coach (TLC) is responsible for managing the child's learning through email and person-to-person meetings. The TLC is not a "tutor" in the traditional sense but a true partner in learning whose role is to personalize each students program to that student's learning needs. Each student is given a diagnostic assessment to determine the appropriate starting point and the learning begins. Student assignments are made on the basis of student assessed strengths and the student's performance is regularly monitored by the TLC so that intervention is timely. Not until mastery is achieved is the student allowed to move on to the next assignment. Frequent assessments are performed to ensure that the student is making continuous progress. The TLC provides motivation, exciting incentives, encouragement and frequent communication to student and the parent.
Students are expected to spend about 15-20 minutes per day on their assignments. Students who follow this regime and complete their assignments WILL BE SUCCESSFUL!! With the caring support of parents (and grandparents, aunts and uncles) working as a team, each child can and will master the math.
