If you are interested in helping children in your area build confidence in their ability to master math and would like to get in on the ground floor of this exciting new program as one of the first Tamarind Learning Coaches (TLC) we want to hear from you.
The program is offered for arithmetic fundamentals and algebra students. You must be able to relate well to children and their parents and believe in the power of technology to improve learning. A bachelor's degree is required for all Tamarind Learning Coaches with some additional math background required for those managing students in the algebra program. You can manage the learning of a few students or grow the program into one of our first Tamarind Learning franchises. The potential is enormous for helping students to become totally proficient in math while earning an income that will exponentially grow as you determine your own goals for expanding or maintaining your student base.
We are now in the process of recruiting Tamarind Learning Coaches. There is no minimum number of students needed to begin offering the program, and financial requirements to become involved are zero, so if you know someone or you yourself would like to become a Tamarind Learning Coach please contact us at recruiting@tamarindlearning.com. For further information please see the FAQ's.
Tamarind Learning Coach (TLC) FAQ's
- How much math do I need to know? To manage the learning of students in our arithmetic program, typically those in grades 3 through 6, there is no formal math requirement beyond that obtained in the acquisition of a bachelor's degree. Those interested in managing the learning of students in our Algebra program would need to show proficiency in higher level mathematics either through the achievement of a minimum score or our Assessment, advanced math coursework in college or some prior teaching experience.
- How much time will I be required to spend with each student? The total amount of time you spend with each child is up to you. However, you should plan for around 1 to 2 hours per month, on the average, per student.
- How many students may I enroll? This depends of course, on your availability and interest, but we suggest that you start off with no more than 10 students for the first couple of months until you become proficient in the use of the EnableMath technology. Expansion beyond that point is then encouraged.
- How will I spend my time with each student? The EnableMath program takes full advantage of its technology developed over the past 10 years. The technology is designed to maximize student learning through "productive practice" on math concepts backed up by interactive, visual content. Your time will be spent assessing student progress, establishing learning paths, assigning work, analyzing student progress and intervening as appropriate. The focus is on managing the students learning and not on problem by problem tutoring. For many older students we believe that there is no need for in-person contact but for children in grades 1 to 6 it is recommended that you meet with the child and the parent at least once per month in person and, as needed over skype or other on-line communication mode.
- How much training do I need? Training in the basic learning management functions takes no more than a few hours. You will be matched with one of our trainers who will work with you in person and/or through use of a webinar.
- How fluent do I need to be with technology? The EnableMath program is completely web based and, while the underlying technology is highly sophisticated, the use of the program by Coaches is extremely easy. Teachers have been using the program for a number of years which has helped to refine the user interface that we currently employ. Basic use of the teaching tools should take no more than a few hours to learn. The management tools are extremely powerful and, as with all technologies, you should expect to develop increasing fluency and expertise in their use over time.
- How much support will I receive? You will be provided with a high level of support as you develop your expertise as a Coach. In addition to initial training, you will be assigned a Mentor fluent with the program and the mathematics who will provide help whenever needed. EnableMath staff will provide the technical support to both you and your students if problems occur with hardware or software applications.
- Will I need to procure space to offer the program? It is not necessary that you provide a separate space for the program although you may want to do so if the number of students reaches a certain level that makes it difficult to operate out of your home.
- How much will it cost me to use the EnableMath Program? There is a monthly fee of $25.00 per student that covers the licensing fee for the use of the technology, as well as for operational and technology support. Note that, during the initial offering of the program, the cost for each new student is only a one-time fee of $25.00 per student!
- How much should I charge for the program? The EnableMath121 Program is designed to be offered by the Tamarind Learning Coach as a monthly subscription service to the parent. It is not a "tutoring" program, but a complete learning program that you will manage for the student and parent. While we do not mandate any minimum or maximum charges, we encourage the Personal Learning Coach to charge no more than $75.00 to $100.00 per student per month.
